Light more than one room when the power cuts.

This portable solar light kit is a small battery box with three hanging LED bulbs on long cables. Hang a bulb in the kitchen, one in the passage, one in a bedroom. Charge the box from the solar panel in the day, or from the wall when Eskom is on. There is also a USB port for a phone top-up.

The problem it solves A single lantern only lights the table you put it on. This kit spreads light to three spots without running a generator.

  • 3 hanging bulbs with their own on/off switches
  • Charge from sun or from 220V
  • USB port for a phone in an emergency
  • Useful for load shedding, backyard, and camping
  • No electrician

What it is not

  • Not a Mini UPS. It will not keep your fibre router on.
  • The USB port is for a slow phone top-up, not a big power bank.
  • The solar panel is small. A full charge from sun takes a long sunny day. Use the wall charger when you can.

How to use it

  • Charge the box fully before the first outage
  • Plug the three bulbs into the box
  • Hang them where you need light
  • Leave the panel in direct sun, or plug the box into the wall

Questions before you buy

Will this run my WiFi? No. Use a Mini UPS for routers and cameras.

How long do the lights last? Longer with one bulb on, shorter with all three. Plan for an evening, not two days.

Can I charge a tablet fast? No. USB on this kit is weak. Use your 16800mAh power bank for phones and tablets.

What’s in the box? 1 × battery / control box
1 × solar panel
3 × LED bulbs with cables
1 × wall charging cable
USB charging extras as packed with your unit

Is shipping free? Yes on orders of R250 and over.

GD-8017 Solar Light Kit — Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How many lights come in the kit? A: The kit includes 3 hanging LED bulbs on long thin cables, plus the portable battery/control box.

Q: Does it really work during load shedding? A: Yes. Once charged, the battery box powers the bulbs independently from Eskom power — no generator or inverter needed.

Q: How do I charge it? A: Place the included small solar panel in direct sunlight on a windowsill, roof or outside wall. The battery box charges during the day.

Q: How long does the battery last on a full charge? A: Runtime depends on how many bulbs you use and their brightness setting, but the kit is designed to last through multiple hours of load shedding on a single charge.

Q: Can I charge my phone with it? A: Yes — the battery box has a USB port, so you can charge your phone or other small devices while the lights are on.

Q: Do the bulbs have switches? A: Yes, each hanging bulb has its own inline on/off switch, so you only use the ones you need.

Q: How bright are the LED bulbs? A: Bright enough to light a kitchen, passage or small bedroom for cooking, reading, or moving around safely in the dark.

Q: Is it safe to use inside the house? A: Yes, it’s completely safe for indoor use — no open flames, no petrol fumes, and no noise.

Q: Can I leave the solar panel outside? A: Yes, the small rectangular panel is designed for outdoor or windowsill placement. Just make sure it gets direct sun.

Q: What do I need to install? A: Nothing complicated. Hang the bulbs where you want them, plug the cables into the battery box, and place the solar panel in the sun.

Q: Is this better than a generator? A: For lighting and phone charging during load shedding, it’s much cheaper, quieter, safer and needs no fuel or maintenance.

Q: Does it come with a warranty? A: Warranty terms depend on your purchase. Please contact PowerReadySA directly with your order details.
